What is the difference between program, application and software

How are you all? I've came up with a topic that is widely used in this information era and is widely confused.

Let's get going with the point😀💻.

                           Programs

A program is a set of instruction which tells a computer what to do. A program mostly serves the purpose of a building base for apps and software. For eg, you are coding on Java Eclipse or python to make a simple calculator so that is a program, It is made by common people and sometimes developers to handle a specific situation. For eg, you are a bank manager, and under you  customer care is working, the  customer care handles the queries of the consumers , so this is a program. When something is wrong with a computer system it got executed and tells the computer what to do next.

So a program is a conditional instruction that tells the the computer what to do in a particular condition. 

Another example is that if you made a program to greet you when you will start your PC.( Like JARVIS in iron man.) So that will be a program.

Also remember that programs are small.

                                    Software

A software is a set of programs  which controls the internal operation of a computer and instructs a computer what to do. A software is mostly interactive, meaning that it takes input from the user and shows the output. A software helps the user with many tasks and and has many features as compared to programs, we also use it to determine the requirements that we need to work on a project. for eg.

Photo editing software - Adobe photoshop

Word processing - MS Word

Spreadsheet software  - MS Excel 

You can notice that a software is much larger in space , more complex and has many features. 

You can see software as a whole department store and its one section is a program. There are two types of software:-

System Software

Application software

Apps are application software.

                                    Application

An application is a software used for a specific task. It is a type of software that we use to do a specific task for eg- writing document , doing calculations , playing games , managing accounts etc. The short form of application is 'apps'. We regularly use it saying "This app is great" or "This app is very useful", Companies like Infosys make 'applications' not software.  

Another topic is Packages.  It is very difficult to make a software for every use, so some software are designed to meet the needs of individuals or organizations. for e.g. Microsoft Office Suite Package.
