What is the difference between VENOM and POISON? # Venom vs Poison
Hello friends!!!
Welcome to my newest blog, As you know that I am studying biology these days, So I've come up with another confusing and an important topic, Most people inter-relate these topic thinking that the two are same, but trust me they are not!!!๐ I think this blog is going to be one of my shortest blog......
Most people think that these two refers to the same thing, but they don't....
Caution: If you have inter-related these terms in front of a biologist, (And if you are a biology student) then you need to worry about your grades๐...
So, Let's start!
First of all, you need to know what a poison or a venom contains, that makes it so dangerous, They are mostly toxic chemicals.
To initiate poisoning, the organism is exposed to toxic chemical either by inhalation, eating or drinking or absorption by skin, When the toxic level of the chemical is accumulated in the targeted tissue, the targeted tissue gets injured and may result in death. The toxic chemical changes the body functions for eg, heart beat and sweating, In short words, most poison changes the metabolism, cell function and hence, the whole cellular or organ system.
The main difference between POISON and VENOM is that Venom is injected into an organism's body whereas the poison may be the substance absorbed by the skin , swallowed or eaten, Some types of venom decrease the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood cells.
That's why we say that Snakes are venomous but Mushrooms are poisonous...
If an organism died, because it had eaten a mushroom that is considered 'Poisonous' Then it is poisoned. And if it died because of a snake bite, it is died because of venom..
Look, in both the cases these both are toxic substances, but the difference is in the method of how the substance had put inside the body of the organism, If the organism have eaten it or swallowed it then it is poison, and if the substance put into the body of the organism is due to the bite of another organism(snakes, bees) then it is venom.
Here are few steps that what to do after a snake bite:-
- First of all recognize that whether the snake was venomous or not....
Most venomous snake have a triangular shaped head, you can see two bite marks in the bited area, also care that there are also some snakes that have triangular head but are non-venomous, and some have the characteristics of non-venomous but ARE VENOMOUS..
- Wash your hands continually with soap and water, and antiseptic. Because these things clean and kill dust and harmful microorganisms that can harm you, Washing the snake bite site can wash off venom that the hospital staff may be able to use to identify the type of snake that bit you.
- Do not panic ( It will increase your heartbeat and the venom will start to reach faster in different types of body.)
- THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT :- Immediately head to nearby hospital!!!!
