Mass Vs Weight
Hello Friends !!!!!!
Welcome to my new blog, MASS VS WEIGHT
From school days, we have always been taught that Matter is something that has mass and occupies space..
Everything in this universe is made up of matter.
So Let's come back to the topic
So what is mass actually
Mass means that how much "stuff" that a thing has. In simple words, it means that how much substance or particles an object has...
For example:- you may know that atoms are the building blocks of an object...
For your clearance to this topic, first let us understand the topic in some deep
Object-molecules-atoms-neutrons ,protons ,electrons-(Neutron , Proton are made up of..) Quarks
First understand what is a quark?
Quark is thought to be a fundamental particle that made neutrons and protons.
There are 6 types of quarks namely up ,down ,strange ,charm ,bottom and top.
But in this topic we have to cover only 2 types of quarks, those are up and down type.
So up quarks have a positive charge and down quarks have negative charge..
The charge of protons is +1 , the charge of up quark is +two-thirds and the charge of a down quark is
negative one-thirds so if you will do the calculations, (Protons are made up of 2 up quarks and 1 down quark) then four-thirds (value of 2 up quarks) subtract 1 down quark then the result will be +1 !!!
And Neutron are consist of 2 down down quarks and 1 up quark(the charge of a neutron is = 0)
So by now you should have cleared that the definition of mass
- It is like an container that contains matter or particles
- It is not affected by gravity.
And , Weight means how much force gravity is applying on that particular object..
For eg the formula for Force is F= MA
Where F is Force, M is mass, A is acceleration
suppose a book weighing 2kg is resting on a table, you have to calculate its force on the table
Then F= 2 x 10
Note: Here it is written that mass= 2kg , it means that the object contains particles that when weighed is equal to 2kg or when gravity applies force the particles will weigh 2kg ( 1 kg = 9.8 Newton, but for easier calculations we prefer 10 newton) (F= W x A)
F=20Newton
But if I asked you to find weight of that book then
20 = W x 10 , W= 20/10= 2, w= 2kg OK???
BUT IF THE GRAVITY IS 0 THEN????
F= 2 x 0
F=0 ( F= 0 Newton )
( You know that 1kg = 10N then, 0 Newton = 0 mass???)
NO! if gravity increases or decreases only the weight will change not mass
The "stuff" or particles will remain unchanged, but weight will change..
You have studied that if we go to moon, our weight will be one-sixth of the actual weight that is on earth..
SO
- Weight refers to the force that gravity is applying on a particular object ..
- If you weight 45 kg, It means that gravity is applying force equal to 45 kg on your mass ( particles) ....
